Home Based Business : Child Care

Many times when people hear the terms work at home or home based business, they tend to shy away because an internet business can be a risky venture or a profitable one. But not all home based businesses have to be internet related.

There are many many at home businesses that have nothing to do with the computer at all.  There are people whose jobs allow them to work from home. For example that would be Doctors, Dentist, Hair Cutters, Physical Therapy, you get the point. Now I am not saying to rush right out and go to Med school but there are other opportunities you can have.

The most common home based business is Child Care. This is a rather expensive necessity if you have kids. The centers whom shall remain nameless charge you an arm and a leg for Child Care. But the women who run the small centers from their home not charge you your first years salary.

You have to decide ahead of time what you want to charge. How much is to much? Remember most likely the parents that are going to come to you because they expect that they will save money with you. From other home based daycare’s the average charge is roughly $100-$ 150 per week. Also remember to set your hours because if you don’t a parent may work overtime and you will end up caring for their child until eight or nine o’clock at night. Set your rules early.

It is not  difficult to start your own daycare. The first thing you are going to need is a lot of patience. Without that you are sunk before you swam. All Child Care providers need a certificate from the State. You can call your local county office clerks office and they will help you. Now that you are licensed, you have to set up some kind of operations from your home, if you have a backyard and a fence then it is a good place to start.

Next you need room in the home where the children are going to play, eat, have diaper changes if you are going to accept babies. Some places do not because the liability on their insurance is to high if God forbid something happens. Then you have to make sure you have enough activities do. You are going to need an assistant because you will someone to watch the kids while you make them lunch or take a bathroom break. Especially if you accept babies.

The hardest part about this type of business is getting the business. Word of mouth is usually the way to go but you have to get started. You can advertise in supermarkets, distribute flyers or advertise in your local paper. It may not happen overnight but be patience because like any other business it does take time .
