Balancing Work at Home and your Family

More and more people have chosen to work from home especially parents. Not the work from home jobs you see in the back of the tabloids but real work from home jobs. With the cost of living going up everyday and especially gas prices alone, it makes more sense to find a work from home job.

The most cost effective reason to work at home for a parent is the child care. Child care in this country is one of the most expensive services around. Unfortunately the people who runs these centers know that and for some parents it is something they can’t do without.

In half of the cases, parents have a job that lets them work from home. For example, Salesmen, Accountants, Medical or Legal Transcriptionist and more commonly Dentist and Doctors who have home practices.

The other half of people are Entrepreneurs, they are the people who create their own work from home businesses.  A lot of women create their own Child care business because they know what is like to need someone to watch their children and they know and understand the financial burden it can become. Other women start nail salons, hair
cutting salon because they cannot afford the shop or some kind of baking business.

Once you have established your work from home business or you may already have a job that allows you to work from home, You now have to figure out how to balance the work from home part and the child care part. I mean that is that is the whole reason why you want to  work from home right?

Scheduling is going to be the most important thing you can do at this point. So aside from feeding your kids, changing diapers ( if you have small children) naptime and not to mention all of those unexpected occurrances that happen during the day you must run your business. You may need to run business errands, return or make phone calls and do paperwork.

You should find a place where you could work where your paperwork won’t end up with peanut butter and jelly smudges on it. Also, you may want to notify the people you are working for that you are working from home and a 9 to 5 day may not be possible. I mean you will have those definite schedule times like meal times and naptimes that is where maybe phone calls can be returned and paperwork may be finished. But leave room for error because you know what best laid plans?

Make sure that the business you choose to do at home goes hand and hand with taking care of your children. That’s why a lot of women choose daycare and baking because it can be incorporated with your child.

Remember why you are working from home. Remember it is to save on ever rising gas prices and unfair child care. Sometimes when you do work from home you can caught up in the day to day grind of a job and then the family suffers. With great planning and exceptional multi tasking (which are the keys to a good home based business) you will succeed.
